MEDICA GROUP provides OnDemand, Dayhawk and Nighthawk services to over 30% of the NHS and is the leading UK provider of radiology reporting services.
Our reputation has been built over the last five years on the fundamental premise of providing high quality, fast and cost effective reporting services with our clients’ needs at the centre of what we do.
“ The MEDICA service is a flexible and responsive support to the increasing demands placed on Diagnostic Radiology. Gwent Healthcare has used the MEDICA service to maintain capacity during periods of Consultant annual leave. High throughput and maintaining capacity is difficult to achieve year round but MEDICA’s support has allowed the Directorate to sustain its productivity without compromising quality. ”

Not all reporting providers are the same, we hope the questions below help demonstrate why the MEDICA service is unique and can be relied upon to deliver.
Are the service provider’s radiologists experienced consultants, UK trained and practising, fellows of the RCR, with full familiarity of how UK hospitals work and how radiology is practised in the UK just like your own radiologists - and how long have they been with the provider?
That is what MEDICA offer, and the Consultants who were working with us on our very first client in 2004 (Whipps Cross Hospital) are still working with us.
Is the reporting radiologist going to talk directly with the referrer and provide immediate guidance on ongoing patient care as soon as the images have been reviewed, and will they enter the report directly into your information system so that it can be reviewed immediately by any authorised user?
That is a standard and very well tested part of the MEDICA service, and is highly valued by our clients and referrers, some of whom may be junior doctors working under great pressure.
Is the reporting radiologist able to easily view the referral and the patient history, where applicable, so that protocolling can take place, if standard protocols are not available, and so that the report and consultation provide optimum insight. How is this achieved?
That is what MEDICA radiologists can see because they have direct, secure connection to your own RIS, fully within your control, and they are therefore able to understand the full clinical history of the patient and report accordingly.
Are your referrers and radiographers able to call the reporting service provider’s helpdesk, even at 3 a.m., and receive immediate, authoritative assistance if they need it?
MEDICA offer 24*7 support in recognition that failure is not an option and your night time staff don’t have many places to go when they need help. We even provide second line technical backup in specialist areas such as networking.
Are the radiologists working on dedicated reporting workstations, provided, calibrated, maintained and supported 24*7 by the service provider to their own high standards that have been approved by LSPs, Connecting for Health, NHS Trusts and Health Boards across the UK?
That’s what MEDICA radiologists use – high end Hewlett Packard workstations and Eizo 3Mpixel monochrome monitors with full PACS functionality.
Is the reporting service provider offering an N3 based infrastructure with full IGSoc compliance and high resilience, running on highly encrypted VPNs, with no dependence at all on potentially troublesome interfaces, and managed by advanced network management tools?
MEDICA have considered many possible architectures and found that this level of commitment and investment is necessary to deliver a dependable service. According to our latest research no other potential provider of reporting services has achieved the level of IGSoc clearance that MEDICA has, which is mandatory in order to lawfully use an N3 connection.
What would happen if there was a local failure at the reporting radiologist’s location?
MEDICA has other radiologists working elsewhere who can step in and pick up the work, so there is no dependency on a central reporting location.
Is there any evidence supporting the provider’s claims on service quality and turnaround times for their emergency on call service, and do they have reference sites?
MEDICA is the only UK provider that can give you this peace of mind, with proven testimonials and reference sites for MEDICA OnDemand, Dayhawk and Nighthawk.
Has the design of the service been reviewed and accepted/commended within the UK Radiology profession?
MEDICA’s services have been comprehensively reviewed and commended by the UK radiology profession, to which we are completely committed.
Is the service pay as you go and can we change the times and dates of when we need the service when we want to?
All MEDICA services are completely flexible. If you wish to change start or finish times, or add dates to cover bank holidays, or if you wish to send us a backlog of exams, there is no extra charge; you only pay for what you send to us.
