has a comprehensive quality assurance programme for all of it’s reporting.

MEDICA has invested in significant development of this process. In addition to the patient outcome discrepancy scoring commonly used in the Independent Sector in the UK, in 2014 we also introduced additional scoring to evaluate the radiological competencies of observation, interpretation and communication.

The company approach is to use the outcome from the audit and discrepancy processes to assist in development of radiological reporting skills and to drive a continuous quality improvement programme. The Medical Director and Clinical Audit Lead seek to adopt an educational approach to discrepancy and audit on an individual reporter and group basis.

In addition to these processes:

  • MEDICA will use the data output to identify opportunities to develop its processes and infrastructure.
  • All audit and discrepancy is managed and recorded on our internally developed secure clinical governance portal, Insight™, which is accessed by our reporters, client sites and our clinical governance team.
  • All reporters are provided with audit and discrepancy reports which are reviewed annually as part of the MEDICA appraisal process. These are available for the reporters revalidation appraisal folders as quality assurance data which can then be supplemented by a self reflective review.
  • The Clinical Audit Lead for MEDICA is Dr Maxine Murray.
